Dear members,
Welcome to our Summer Newsletter where you can find out everything that’s been happening with Sailors Creek over the last few months and connect with our little corner of nature in all its summer glory.
We continue our work to clear the flotsam and jetsam left over from the years gone by and make a safe haven for boats to moor in and for wildlife to flourish. So what else has been happening?
Feature in Practical Boat Owner Magazine

We’re proud to have had our ongoing work featured in the Practical Boat Owner Magazine (PBO) alongside Wreckfree.org on the important issue of what to do with end of life vessels and abandoned boats. The article offers an in depth look at the issue along with possible solutions and an overview of the courageous people who are trying to tackle the problem. The article can be viewed on the PBO website at https://www.pbo.co.uk/specials/abandoned-boats-and-end-of-life-vessels-97224
Wreckfree.org has started an online wreck registry service with an interactive map of the local rivers showing all of the currently known wrecks that litter our waterways and is suggesting a boat owners registry with a small fee to help tackle the issue. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any other solutions we could implement in order to make the coming increase in the number of end of life boats easier to deal with?
The Oldest Tree in the Parish Campaign

Get involved in the oldest tree in the parish competition!
Where exactly is the oldest tree in the parish? Well, no one knows for certain. There’s an incomplete map of ancient trees in the Flushing and Mylor Parish and we need your help to finish it. Maybe you have a favourite tree or one you’re particularly proud of? We’ll be keeping a record of all your favourite trees, all the better to protect our natural heritage before we lose it. Take your children to see and celebrate these guardians of nature.

More information on how to enter, how to measure a tree, and how to identify its location, can be found at https://www.sailorscreekcic.org/s-projects-basic or email mylortrees@gmail.com
Keewaydin Update and Launch Date Nears.

The monumental effort to save the historic vessel Keewaydin is still in full flow. Spike Davies and his team have already completed a huge amount of work having replaced much of the planking and many of the internal frames. They are currently fitting new engine beds and continuing plank repairs and replacement where necessary. This is to ensure the vessel is sound below the waterline in preparation for caulking, paying, and painting, ready for launching in October! It really will be a pleasure to see this old girl relaunched and floating again and we wish the best of luck to the project in this final stage.
