Spring 2026 Newsletter

Spring Newsletter.

Dear Sailors Creek members,

Welcome to our Spring 2026 Newsletter.

Welcome to the Spring edition of the Sailors Creek newsletter. As the days get longer and life around the creek begins to wake up again, we wanted to share a few updates and community news from around the moorings. Whether you’ve known the creek for years or have only recently discovered it, we hope this helps keep everyone connected and informed for the season ahead.

Sailors Creek AGM & Summer BBQ – 4th July

All of our members are warmly invited to this year’s Sailors Creek AGM and Summer BBQ, taking place on Saturday 4th July from 5pm onwards, with food on the BBQ from 6pm.

The AGM is a great chance to hear updates about the creek, share ideas, meet fellow berth holders and members, and help shape plans for the future of Sailors Creek. Afterwards, we’ll be keeping things relaxed with a summer boat jamboree, BBQ, and a chance for everyone to get together socially.

Come along for the meeting, stay for the food and socialising, and hopefully a proper summer evening on the creek for once — weather permitting, of course. Please give us a heads up if you plan to attend.

We Welcome Our New Directors, Rob and Finn

We are pleased to welcome Rob and Finn to the Sailors Creek directorship. Both bring valuable experience, fresh ideas, and a shared commitment to protecting and improving the creek for everyone who lives and works here. We look forward to working with them in the years ahead.

Forest Garden Update

Wow! What an amazing time of year - there's often a fuss about the bluebells (which are, of course, fantastic) but there are also so many other things to appreciate. If you haven't been down to the Forest Garden for a while do have a wander - the clearing for last year's tree planting has made for a bumper display of orchids: I counted over 50 in a three square metre patch.

Also very pleasing are the survivors of winter and the early deluge - I thought this Chinese cedar was dying or dead -but it has unfurled a beautiful set of new leaves which, apparently, taste of bouillon. We shall have to wait a few years before a proper harvest.

I will be posting some activity days but feel free to come down and enjoy the green growth anytime - just to sit and listen to the bees on the gorse, at the moment, is balm in itself. Get in touch if you want some guidance or to fix a volunteer time that suits you.

Keewaydin Update

Following the tragic events earlier this year, there is little further to add regarding Keewaydin at this time.

Updates and information relating to the project can be found at www.sailorscreekcic.org/keewaydin

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported and contributed to the project over the years. Your help, time, and generosity were greatly appreciated.
