Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) - Sailors Creek - 23 August 2021
The site, measuring c. 3.2 ha and known locally as ‘Sailors Creek’, is located on the north bank of the Penryn River estuary, c. 0.5 km west of Flushing Village, and c. 0.3 km north of Falmouth, which is located on the south bank of the Penryn River estuary, Cornwall. The site comprises predominantly intertidal mud/ sand (below the mean high water mark) and intertidal boulders/ rocks below the mean high water mark, bound by boulders/ rocks above the mean high water mark and broad-leaved woodland, with an area of dense scrub understood to have previously been grassland as indicated by neutral semi-improved grassland along scrub margins, and a small stream entering the northern tip of the intertidal creek. The site is surrounded by the Penryn River Estuary to the south and immediate west, with mixed farmland (arable and pasture) enclosed with Cornish hedgerows and pockets of woodland to the northwest and northeast.
Our lease allows us to have 26 moorings which are traditional Cornish drying mud berths.
If your boat has a keel you will need legs.
If your boat is a flat bottomed barge you won’t!
At present we don’t have access to all of the beach and we are awaiting essential tree works in order to make the beach safe, but we do have a waiting list for moorings.
From April 2022 all boatowners on the mooring waiting list will have to become a Sailors Creek Member.
