Dear Sailors Creek members,
Welcome to our Autumnal Newsletter.
We continue our work to clear the flotsam and jetsam left over from the years gone by and make a safe haven for boats to moor in and for wildlife to flourish. So what else has been happening?
A Massive Thank You to Peter for His Time as Director.
Peter Weller has stepped down as a Director of Sailors Creek CIC and we would like to offer our most heartfelt thanks to him for his time with us. He has had a huge influence on Sailors Creek - both in the culture of the organisation, as our 'moral compass', and also the physical geography of the Creek - several small improvements that made a big difference to the feel of the place.
If you would like to offer to fill his position we encourage you to get in touch - email sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com - the hours are whatever you can spare & the meetings are quick (usually only 1 hour per month). It could be for a fixed term if you wanted. The closing date for applications is the end of November!
Forest Garden Volunteer Day.
Thanks to everyone who came to the November Forest Garden volunteer day; space was cleared for more tree planting in a fortnight and we were treated to a beautiful display of aerial prowess by the local kestrel. Often Forest Garden activity days are weather dependent and sometimes quite 'last minute' things. We have formed a 'Forest Garden Group' on WhatsApp which will only be a Notification system - not a chat group. If anyone wants to join, to be told of upcoming volunteer days or activity times, please get in touch with Sailors Creek, either by email or text. sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com
As part of last year’s Christmas at Enys experience, families were each given a seed to take home and grow. Over the past year, those seeds have been nurtured into young trees and, on Sunday 23rd, families returned to Sailors Creek to plant them. A total of 60 young trees were planted—an encouraging result and such a welcome addition to our forest garden

Sailors Creek HQ Takes Shape
Mark and Loz have been busy renovating the Tea Room which is to become the new Sailors Creek HQ. The walls have been insulated and boarded out so we can keep it warm over the winter months and we’ll be installing a fire and workspace.. We’re expecting the new HQ to give us more of a presence at the creek and enable our mooring holders and members to be able to find us and interact with us in an easier way. Rufus, our administrator, will be there each Monday, so if you have any questions or suggestions, please pop in and say hi.
Wreck Removal Volunteer Week
You may not be aware but we have a week of wreck clearance and groundworks happening this week and we would dearly love some volunteers to come and lend whatever support they can muster.
As you know we've been clearing the accumulated detritus of many years of neglect from the banks of the creek, but we've still got some way to go. This next step will help to free up some more space at the head of the creek and shift another load of waste that would otherwise be left to contaminate the river.
The plan is to bring in a digger to clear a path and then we'll be breaking up two wrecks that will need to be cleared along with some further rubbish we would love to remove.
A basic outline of the week looks something like....
Monday - Digger work clearing a path.
Tuesday - Wreck clearance.
Wednesday - Wreck clearance.
Thursday - Clearing rubbish.
Friday - Clearing rubbish.
Sat/Sun - Final clear up and tidy. (May not be necessary depending on how we get on.)
If you can lend a hand then please come along whenever you can manage from Monday the 24th to Sunday the 30th. Please wear suitable clothing and stout boots and bring work gloves if you have them. If you have any questions then please ask us at sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com.

Keewaydin Update
The monumental effort to save the historic vessel Keewaydin is still in full flow. Spike Davies and his team have already completed a huge amount of work having replaced much of the planking and many of the internal frames. New engine beds are fitted and the planking on one side has been completed and painted. The launch date has been pushed back into the spring of next year to ensure that she is completely ready to enter the water.

Why not have a "Quiet" Season and avoid the expense of making the clubhouse warm and toasty in a Cornish Winter? I KNOW what they are!!! The Flushing postmistress changed her attitude when I confirmed that I was a year round resident in Sailors Creek. JUst ask me anything ATB Joe
